How to Soften Butter in Microwave

One of the most scrumptious and snackable treats out there is those mini fried cherry pies! Those tasty treats are one of the yummiest and most crave-worthy snacks to chow down on. If only there was a better way to enjoy them…

There is actually! My easy Air Fryer Cherry Empanadas are a much better way to enjoy those tasty cherry treats! Instead of little pies fried in oil, my cherry empanadas are cooked in the air fryer without any of the unhealthy parts of fried food.

These cherry empanadas come out perfectly crisp and packed with yummy cherry filling! They are really easy to make and don’t require many tools or ingredients, so it’s a great recipe for beginners to try.

It’s also an excellent meal prep food as they can be frozen after being cooked, then reheated later for a quick and easy snack or a breakfast on-the-go. Whatever you want to make them for, you’re sure to love them! Here’s how to make my scrumptious Air Fryer Cherry Empanadas!

How to Make Cherry Empanadas in the Air Fryer

Now let’s start making some enchanting empanadas! This empanada recipe process is very easy to follow along with so have fun with it! Here’s how to make my easy cherry empanadas in the air fryer:

    1. First, prepare the cherry empanada ingredients.
    2. Crack the egg into a small mixing bowl.
    3. Then, beat it well with a whisk or fork to create an egg wash.
    4. Grab the cherry filling, empanada dough, egg wash, and the empanada press mold.
    5. Next, remove the separating paper from an empanada dough disc.
    6. Lay the dough disc over the open press mold.
    7. Then, brush the egg wash around the edge of the empanada dough.
    8. Next, scoop 1.5 tbsp of the cherry filling into the middle of the dough. Make sure that there is no filling on the edges of the dough, then close the press to seal the empanada.
    9. Then, using a small fruit knife, carefully cut little vents into the empanadas.
    10. Repeat the filling, pressing, and venting process for the rest of the empanadas.
    11. Next, preheat the air fryer at 350°F for 3 minutes.
    12. Place a few of the cherry empanadas flat in the bottom of the air fryer.
      1. Do not try to squish a bunch in there. You want these to lay comfortably flat while cooking.
    13. Lightly brush the top of the empanadas with the egg wash, then lightly spray with the cooking oil.
    14. Then, cook the cherry empanadas for 8 minutes.
    15. Flip the empanadas using kitchen tongs.
    16. Spray the other side of the empanadas lightly with cooking oil.
    17. Cook the empanadas again for another 4 minutes.
    18. After cooking, transfer the cherry empanadas to a cooling rack. Repeat the cooking process for the remaining empanadas.
    19. Finally, serve these scrumptious snacks, devour, and enjoy!

    Storing Cherry Empanadas

To store cherry empanadas: move them to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Or transfer the empanadas to a freezer-safe bag and freeze them for up to 3 months. Thaw them in the fridge overnight before reheating.  Always label the date on the outside of the container to keep up with freshness.

    To reheat empanadas:

    • Bake them in a toaster oven for 12 minutes at 350°F.
    • Heat them in an air fryer for 5 minutes at 375°F.
    • You can also use the microwave method too by heating them up for 1.5 minutes. However, the empanadas tend to come out a little bit soggy with this method.
